I am working on Sacred Feminine Symbols that I am going to use in painting workshops and much more. Seems every few days I am getting more inspiration for this symbol language I am developing as a creative expression and empowerment tool for women.

Here’s how it is developing, always subject to change!

There will be 77 total sacred feminine symbols. One for each number, one for each letter of the alphabet including some letter combinations, and many for different aspects of women. Some of these ‘aspects’ are archetypal, some will speak to activities, roles and creations of women.

In the nearer future I will start workshops based on using these symbols for expressionist painting. Sacred Feminine Symbols Painting Workshops. What started out as a pretty cut and dry idea of a few symbols that represent the sacred feminine has morphed into a quite encompassing project…

In addition to the in person workshops I will be creating a workbook and tarot deck using the sacred feminine symbols. The workbook will be filled with prompts and art exercises as visual tools for well being. Each creative exercise will use one of the sacred feminine symbols to harness awareness and focus on the power of that symbol. The tarot deck will be complimentary to the workbook. Each card will have a description of the cards meaning and direction to the associated art exercise to give participants a creative way to express themselves in conjunction with their self exploration.

The start of this idea came from my want to develop a way for women to express different aspects of the self and our world through a simple, creative medium. I studied the goddess symbol and its variations and developed a goddess symbol that can be drawn with two circles and five lines. I shifted and bent the lines and developed dozens of variations, all in line, to convey different poses and aspects of life. These variations are kept simple and are always anchored by the main structure if the goddess.

From here the idea has morphed into a whole symbol system, this Goddess symbol being just one of them with a lot of possible variations. The entirety of the project including the workbook and tarot deck will take some time.

Now I am in the stages of finalizing what the 77 symbols will be. I am studying the mythic meanings of letters including phonetics, the research of Dr Margaret Magnus in particular has been a big influence on how I am organizing the letters. I have already established what symbols will describe each number, from 0 to 13. Once the symbols are set it place I will be ready to conduct the painting workshops!

This is the first of the new mini landscapes I have been creating of the Pacific Northwest. These oil paintings are 2″ x 4″.

This one is a scene of North Beach, by Port Townsend, WA. Standing here you are amongst brightly colored rocks in orange, greens and reds, as well as sea glass, starfish, and a beautiful view of Mount Baker.
