A Blink in the Journey

A Blink in the Journey

Reflections of an Artistic Mystic

Shelley Irish, 2/27/19

I had a nice week. I filmed a video called Listening to your Body, which I’ll finish tomorrow. It’s a simple practice to do before meditation or in a quick moment to check in with your body.

“The Artist Learns to Commit for a Lifetime. It’s easy for Bob Dylan or Neil Young to say ‘I’m never going back to work in the bean fields.’ What about you and me? Can we say it and mean it?”

Over the weekend I finished 2 new-to-me Steven Pressfield books, the War of Art and the Artist’s Journey. The above quote is from the Artist’s Journey.

Earlier in the week I was overcome with love washes about my journey as an artist. When I got done with my degree and was going all in for my career, I was painfully aware that I went to art school, not business school. I’ve learned so much and am so grateful for those sharing their know-how to adapt to modern, creative business. I’ve always had part time office work in and out of school. This week I got to use things that I learned to promote myself as an artist to promote a class one of my bosses is teaching. It was just a little thing, but it meant a lot to me to have done the sometimes incredibly hard work it takes to put yourself out there in this field, and have that skill I learned be valuable and effective for someone else. I designed a beautiful graphic and got the class listed in a local paper. This creative biz landscape is ever changing, and following my commitment to art has given me endless things to be appreciative of. 💜
