Reflections of an Artistic Mystic

Shelley Irish, 1/2/19

My work has been more behind the scenes this week. At the beginning of 2018 I set out to create or rent a place to teach and to participate in art walk nights. After a lot of contemplation and divination, I decided to turn my shed into a classroom! 🎉  A couple of my friends got a place where I can be involved in art walk nights too, the vision is manifesting. ✨

For the classroom, it’s been slow going because of whiplash pain since April but I made some good organization progress this week. I had a bunch of kitchen stuff I encorporated into the kitchen, more than I thought possible. I’ve also got the back of our truck filled with donation items and am almost at the point where my husband can do the heavy lifting to set it up. Because I can’t work at a regular desk anymore, we are going to move my awesome desk from my office into the shed so my students can use it.

I feel so happy to be making progress. I wanted to start home classes at the beginning of this year but can only do so much of the labor and decision making at a time. I scheduled a couple classes at Daniel Smith Artist’s Materials in SODO until mid March, so I can still teach this winter, and give myself more breathing room on getting my classroom set up.

I am so thankful for my beloved for his encouragement and support of all of my dreams, for my friends and family for accepting and loving me, for my community and students who enjoy my offerings and inspire me with their creations. I am so happy to be creating space where I can expand my offerings and give my students more flexibility in scheduling. I am thankful to you for letting me share my journey with you.

May your new year be blessed!

Have a wonderful week,

~ Shelley
